Our (finally) functional dryer

If you ever need to learn how to fix an appliance, go to fixitnow.com.

A washer and dryer came with our house, but they were provided in “as-is” condition. Turned out that the dryer went round and round, but wouldn’t heat. Enter fixitnow.com.  It’s a blog written by the “Samurai Appliance Repair Man”.  The guy is funny, and he really knows his stuff.  I used his Online Dryer Diagnostic Guide to troubleshoot my dryer, and it turns out that this little beastie was my problem:

Gas dryer boost/hold hoil

In case you’re wondering (and I know you are) it’s the boost/hold coil that is involved in opening the gas valve inside the dryer.  Thankfully eBay has everything, so it was a cheap & easy fix.

Hooray for the internet.

Good job Tristan, I’m going to remember that web site! XXOO

  2. Mark McDaniel says:

Hey Tristan! Found your site from ole Greg E. How are you guys? Where you living? Do YOU have a baby? Anyway, just saying hello! I think the last time i heard anything about you was your wedding in tennessee, which i was going to come to but was a camp counselor instead :(…no wait, :) it was a good summer.

I think its so cool that your mom reads your blog. Congrats on hunting down the part, I’m proud of you. Incidentally, I heard of a South Korean business man who paid $27,000 for a Soviet Era MIG fighter jet that he bought off EBAY. Evidentally, he’s planning on using it as a lawn ornament.

  4. Tristan says:

Hey Mark! We’re doing great. We’re living in the Chicago area (just moving into a house), and no, we don’t have a baby. (See, Aaron & Brock? This is how rumors get started!) You’re still overseas, aren’t you? I thought I read something about a “countdown timer” on your blog – when are you coming home?

  5. Tristan says:

ACB: Yeah, my mom is cool. She’s getting all tech-savvy these days. I think it rubs off from my dad’s tech aura.

About the MIG – I hope it’s non-functional. No, actually, I hope it’s functional. Let’s go get it. By the way, what classes are you teaching at Cedarville this fall?

  6. Tristan says:

Alright, let me just say that Aaron is not teaching classes at Cedarville this fall. I just wanted to join in the rumor-mill, too. :)

  7. Ben says:

    Tristan,
We definitely needed some kind of fix to deal with the “gas valve” (nice new term . . . when did you come up with it?) while at Harriman. Where was eBay then????
